• Palestinian literature recommendations - small books with a big impact •
Here’s a few recommendations for short reads. If you’re looking for small books to help you reach your reading goal before the end of the year or for when you need a shorter read to suit your time, these are all fairly quick reads but very impactful.
All Palestinian literature. Most of these recommendations are short story collections and mostly translated from Arabic. They each show the different ways the Israeli occupation has affected Palestinians. From the start of the Nakba, to the blockaded Gaza Strip, to Palestinians refugees in the diaspora.

Tolkien really just dropped that vampires canonicallly exist in middle earth and left it at that
And if you’ve never read the silmarillion, just LotR, werewolves are mentioned exactly once, as a throw away comment by Gandalf that they’re around, and then never again.
Any other author that would be foreshadowing, but Tolkien is completely fine that we never get closure on that.
I have three modes of reading

You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just…mellow.
Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize…
…they've never actually told you anything about themselves.
Writer 1: Needs to know everything about the story before you can begin
Writer 2: Wings everything. Hardly knows anything about the story. Doesn’t know what’s supposed to happen next
Writer 3: Makes detailed outlines but never follows them
Writer 4: Is a mix of Writer 1 and 2
Writer 5: The sleep doesn’t exist writer
